Heating system controls
Having the appropriate heating controls is imperative to enable the user to control their heating system to keep them warm and comfortable. Divine Water can help you to decide what controls are most suitable for you.
SIMPLE CONTROLS
Traditionally heating and hot water systems will have two controls, a thermostat to set the temperature and a timer to tell the system when to come on. Today when there is much focus on enginery efficiency and the desire not to waste energy these are normally supplemented with the addition of Thermostatic Radiator Valves TRVs. Generally with a Combi boiler simple controls like a Drayton dial thermostat, boiler clockwork timer with Drayton 212 TRVs are adequate to give good control of your heating system.
PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTATS
The next level is to use a slightly more complex programmable thermostat. This gives the ability to change the temperature at different times of day. As an example this is very useful set as follows:
19 degrees 6.00 to 8.30 while you are getting up and ready for work. Warm not hot.
17 degrees 8.30 to 4.30 while you are out at work effectively off. Cool not cold.
19 degrees 4.30 to 6.00 while getting home and preparing dinner. Warm not hot.
22 degrees 6.00 to 11.00 while sitting and lounging. Nice and warm.
16 degrees 11.00 to 6.00 over night while in bed. Cool but will come on very cold at nights.
SMART HEATING CONTROLS
These controls come from many manufactures, they allow for your heating to be controlled by a wall mounted unit or by an app on your phone. There are two leading brands of smart controls, these are Hive and Nest.
They are both excellent controls and are suitable for Combi boilers, system boilers, heavenly boilers and water based underfloor heating UFH.
Smart Controls can be a real help for relatives that need a bit of help to effectively control their heating. This could mean that your relative can control heating from control and you can check all is well using the app on your phone. Too cold you can turn heating up, or too hot you can turn it down a bit, helping to keep your loved ones warm and safe.
